Dear Friends,
Well, March was in like a lion this year, and I'm was thinking from this afternoon that it's going out like a lamb. But, this evening has turned into a different story. We'll keep our fingers crossed!
I saw many of you at the The Banff Mountain Film Festival this past Friday and Saturday nights, and I have to say that this year sure was great. It's pretty interesting that, according to our host, Boone and Farthing Auditorium is known as the best venue for the film festival - with the most ENTHUSIASTIC crowd! That's a lot to say since it is a world tour. He also talked about the great sense of community here in Boone, the beautiful setting, and, oh yeah, the "cool" bakery!!! Woo-hoo!
And, speaking of cool, our customer of the month for April is one cool cat... Beth Jacquot!

We often see Beth immediately after school lets out, kids trailing, in search of cookies and caffeination. Originally from Cincinnati, Beth moved to Boone for school and never left. She splits her time as a web designer between the Blue Ridge Learning center and Appalachian State.
Beth has two children-Beckham, who is 10, and Mairin, who is 7. Beckham and Mairin both love the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie; Beth likes our sourdough and the Larry's Bean's coffee! Say "Hello" to Beth when you see her around the bakery!

Bread of the Week: GARLIC CHEDDAR FRENCH
|
|
It's been on our bread schedule since the very beginning, and it's been a hit since then. It's Garlic Cheddar French. You can smell the garlic roasting from a mile away when Daniel, our baker, opens the oven to check on the garlic cloves basking in olive oil. And, when that is mixed with sharp cheddar cheese, it's the perfect marriage of flavors. Not to mention the fact that it's mixed into our delectable French dough. Wow, no wonder why it's such a popular bread. I've taken this one home and served it for dinner with marinara sauce. It's also great for cold cut sandwiches, and it's the no fuss garlic bread. Just heat it up and serve it. Garlic Cheddar French is in a class of it's own.
Garlic Cheddar French is normally available on Tuesday and Friday for $3.79. This week we will have it everyday and at a sale price of $3.29.
As always,
we mix our breads from scratch, shape them by hand, and bake them in our big German
oven, right here in our bakery on Hardin Street. We bake only with unbleached
and unbromated flour and never use any additives or preservatives. Come and
taste. |
Our Daily Breads
|
|
Our
constant experimentation with new breads has created a surplus of
recipes that we cannot possibly make on a weekly basis. Our solution
to this problem is to offer daily specials, or as we call them, "our
daily breads." These breads change from week to week. For the week of March 30th through April 4th, the special breads will be as follows:
Monday: Sweet Potato Marshmallow Brioche - White chocolate chips, marshmallows, and oven-roasted sweet potato all blended into a delightful French breakfast bread.
Tuesday: Pumpernickel - A blend of white, whole wheat and rye flours textured with cocoa and molasses.
Wednesday: Buttermilk Coconut Bread - Tangy buttermilk, roasted walnuts and coconut blended into a sweet, tangy, nutty loaf.
Thursday: Altamura Bread - A unique sourdough made from pasta flour and yogurt, based on an Italian regional recipe.
Friday: Levain Bread - A rustic French sourdough, naturally fermented with an unmistakably chewy, rich, golden texture.
Saturday: Apricot Delights - Little rounds of brioche heaven, with a homemade filling made from real apricots and roasted pecans.
***
We are also featuring the infamous Panettone on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of this week.
...And Hot Cross Buns on Friday and Saturday. Give us a call to order ahead. These things seem to fly off of the shelves... 828-268-9900.

Featured Product: BALD GUY BREW
|
|
As a small business in our great community, it sure does make a whole lotta sense to support other small businesses in our area. So, Stick Boy is happy to say that along with our regular coffee, Larry's Beans, we are also offering Bald Guy Brew. Many of you know of Bald Guy Brew, and most of you have probably seen
that we've been serving it once a week or so. We think it's great coffee, and I hope that you've enjoyed the cups that you've had. Please check out his website - baldguybrew.com. It's full of great information about coffee and his local roasting company!
We also have his coffee beans available by the pound for $10.99, and I'm offering a coupon this week for one pound of Bald Guy Brew beans. Check it out!

Sincerely,

I have a couple of great ideas for Appalachian mountain culture films, but I don't have any resources. If someone is wanting to start on a fun project, and is serious about it, please, let's talk.
